Not long ago, I explained to you that my husband and I had a difficult talk with our children about world affairs. When they ask questions, we want to be truthful with them, but at the same time, we don’t want them to be afraid. I shared this prayer for when I am afraid with all of you and today, I thought we could all benefit from this list of Bible verses for when I am afraid.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” Psalm 56:3&4

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

“Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” Isaiah 35:4

“God told me, “Don’t say, ‘I’m only a boy.’ I’ll tell you where to go you’ll go there. I’ll tell you what to say and you’ll say it. Don’t be afraid of a soul. I’ll be right there, looking after you.”God’s Decree.”  Jeremiah 1:7-8 MSG

“For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.” Psalm 112:6-8

“And Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and courageous. For thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.” Joshua 10:25

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27

“…Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.” Nehemiah 4:14

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

  1. These verses are relevant for all ages and all times. Joshua 1:9 is one of my favorites because of the reminder that God is with us no matter where we are. I also love the words strong and courageous because of the positive encouragement those words evoke. Thank you for sharing these again.
