The reader in me is reviewing the year. I am looking forward to having a little more time (hopefully) after this week to finish out the last two weeks of the year with a few more books. But today I wanted to give you a list of the best books of 2013 I’ve read so far. Perhaps one or two will give you a gift idea for the readers in your life.

books read in 2013

For those of you who might be new around here, most of the books I read and review are Christian nonfiction. Below you will find a list of all the books I read and/or reviewed this year. In no particular order at this point, here we go:

1. All Pro Dad

Loved this book- it made my Top 4 Christian Books for Dads list!

2. Heaven Changes Everything

More on this before the end of the year!

3. Praying God’s Word for Your Husband

This book made the 5 Awesome Books on Prayer list.

4. The Baby Companion Guide

Awesome guide- highly recommend for new moms and included on the 5 Encouraging Books for Moms list.

5. The Unburdened Heart

Possibly my favorite book I read this year. Practical and inspirational!

6. Wife After God Devotional

7. Women Living Well

8. The Mission of Motherhood

9. God Is Able

Another favorite of the year- I can’t tell you how much I loved this book. Priscilla Shirer rocks!

10. Platform

11. How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul

12. Touching the Hem: A Biblical Response to Physical Suffering

13. On Becoming A Writer

14. Let It Go

Alright! I hope I didn’t leave any out. I download some books to my Kindle app on the iphone and read the rest in standard book form. I’m not sure which I love more. The app is convenient, but the phone is a little small for reading in my opinion. And who doesn’t just love the feel of turning pages?

The “books I’ve read” list seems a little short for this year, but I was more heavily involved in writing and speaking than I’ve been in the past.

Speaking of which, the 2014 speaking schedule is being worked up and I’d love to speak at your church! Just complete the form here.

What did you read this year? Got a favorite?

Today I’m at The Better Mom with a few Holiday Timesavers; will you drop by and say hi? Thanks a nd see you tomorrow!

  1. What a great list! I’m going to have to check out a few of these titles. Thank you!

(And I also love On Becoming a Writer.)

  2. Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing these books to read. I just read Joel Osteen “its your time”. I so much needed this book as it has been rough heath ride over 21 months and you are a great encourager, bless you! Xoxo

  3. Thanks, Rachel, for sharing my book here. I love your whole list!

    Denise 🙂

  4. Great list. I’ve read many of them also, and enjoyed them. And I like to see what others enjoyed so I can make a solid list to start off 2014! Thank you!

    Marissa

  5. I’m not much of a reader. At times I force myself to read to better myself. How to Blog for Profit has been a great help as I desire to get started with this area on my blog.
Platform my Michael Hyatt was a great read with lots of valuable insight.

  6. I’ve read several of these books but I especially love Denise J. Hughes’ book. It was such a help to me in my writing. How to Blog for Profit is an excellent resource.

    1. Highly recommend both of those books! Friends with the authors and think the world of each of them!

  7. Hi Rachel! Love your list!I have been wanting to read Unburdened Heart. I have Let it Go but just haven’t gotten to it…I have read and done the OBS with A Co fident Heart, Stressed-Less Living and What Happens When Women Say Yes to God and loved all three! I am slowly reading and studying the Bible with Tara Furman’s Intimacy With God and that is awesome as well. My next book to read is Kelley Latta’s Tested by Fire. She is starting an OBS the end of January. The one thing about reading and Bible Study with each book is that the reflection and journaling are more than just reading so I did not spend as much time just reading. Also gonna read Cloudy with Scattered Worries (Hope I got the title right). I actually won it with a comment on a blog post so it may be in the near future! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! God bless! Hope Taylor is feeling ok…keeping her in my prayers!

    1. oh I forgot to list What Happens When Women Say Yes to God- I read that in the spring. Really had an impact at the time! Thanks for sharing your list- I’m intrigued! And Thank you for praying for Taylor. This cold weather is slowing her down a bit.
