I really think the most unforgettable line in “Princess Bride” is when the minister is droning on and on and finally says in an uptone swing “Wuv…twue wuv….”

So how about your twue wuv?  Why am I bringing this up now? Valentine’s Day is not for another month.

And that’s why.

So many couples don’t have a date night simply because they don’t plan it.  One thinks the other should do the planning. He doesn’t get a babysitter and she doesn’t make the reservation and well, the date just never happens.

Matt and I try to have a date night at least twice a month out of the house.  Sometimes more frequently, sometimes less.  Since the baby is nine months old, it is getting easier, but she went on several “dates” with us this year due to time constraints and baby facts (the small issue of feeding her aka nursing.) Really, we both know all the excuses. Hard to find a babysitter (especially for 6 kids), too tired at the end of a long work day, no room in the family schedule…the list goes on.

End the excuses! Here’s a little tip:

Focus on the Family is hosting a wonderful Valentine’s event:

Date Night Challenge

Their motto: Get out, get closer.

This event is a pre-recorded webcast being aired all over the country via local churches and you can even go to their site and find a host church in your area. So what are you waiting for?

  1. Great post for love and marriage! It is work, to not be pulled away from each other, and sometimes you just need to step away with each other! Thanks for your thoughts… p.s. The Princess Bride is the BEST movie ever!!!
    Blessings, Amy

A fellow Princess Bride lover. 🙂 funny about the sometimes you “just need to step away with each other.” I first read it as “just need to step away FROM each other.” lol Guess that happens too. Happy Friday, Friend!

  2. Something for me to remember, Rachel, as my husband and I move closer to adopting a sibling group of five. We’re excited about the new season in our lives and will have to be more intentional about date night.

    Thanks for the heads-up! 🙂

    Blessings,
    Daphne

  3. Nate and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary in December and my gift to him was a notebook with 10 pre-planned date nights for the next 10 months! It was a blast to put together and forces us to follow through. At the beginning of each month, we’re planning on looking at the calendar and putting the date down and then asking my parents to babysit. Our first one is coming up on Sunday afternoon…free admission to the Columbus Museum of Art to see the “Come See a Man” exhibit and dinner at Mozart’s Cafe. Thanks for the reminder, Rachel!
