We Don’t Get What We Bargain For

When my husband and I moved into our house years ago, a thorny bush grew in one of the flower beds.  Didn’t look like much and I honestly thought we would be ripping it out in the future.  But it turned out that this bush of thorns was actually something way more. For years now, we’ve clipped gorgeous roses from its branches.  In this case, we definitely got more than we bargained for.

Life isn’t easy. At least in this neck of the woods.   I’m betting you would agree, in one way or another.

Cars break down.  Drivers have accidents.  Kids get sick; parents get tired.  Dads work hard; Moms work harder. 😉

With the children out of school, I’ve heard this phrase a little too often for my liking:

That’s not fair!

“I know, Sweetie. Life is not always fair.”

But there are times where you get more than you bargained for.

The one-car week gave you more time to talk to your spouse while riding together.

The accident brought you to the realization of God’s continual protection.

The kiddos received much-needed one-on-one time with their parents through love and care initiated by sickness.

The teamwork of Dad and Mom each doing their part represents a unified front to their children and draws the family closer together.

Many times we don’t get what we wish for.

But if we take the time to think it over, if we can glimpse a little insight into the eternal future, we might realize that we don’t get what we bargained for….

We get more.
