Sundays with the Chaplain

Last week I introduced to you, my father-in-law, Dr. Marion Wojnarowski, who has been serving the Lord in ministry for over 48 years. His many areas of service have included pastoring, evangelism, teaching, mission work, and in recent years,he has served as the chaplain for a retirement center. While serving in these capacities, many a sermon and newsletter article has been pounded out on my Dad-in-love’s old typewriter.   Since I couldn’t convince him to begin blogging on his own, I really wanted to honor his love legacy to the Lord. Enjoy his words and have a beautiful Sunday!

Somewhere Over the Moon

The moon is an intriguing satellite that is actually worshiped by many people around the world.  Some folks superstitiously blame their moods on the visual quarters of the moon’s direction in the hemisphere.  Some determine the fate instead of faith on the moon’s appearance.  Others believe it shows the signs of the times, true romances, storm forecasts and befalling evils and curses! Scientifically, the moon’s gravitational pull controls our oceans and their tides.  Can you imagine what the price of beef would be if these folks could catch the fabled “Cow that jumped over the moon” in the popular nursery rhyme? (Just a little Polish humor injected by yours truly!)

Moon worshipers go way back to Biblical warning times, as we read in Deut. 4:19,

“And let thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldst be drive to worship them and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.”

The moon was created by the Lord to give mankind a light by night, not a right for a worshipped sight! In Genesis 1:16 “And God made two lights; the greater light (sun) to rule the day, and the lesser light (moon) to rule the night.  He made the stars, also.”

Sometimes, the sun and the moon are eclipsed by the shadows of the earth and these heavenly bodies, and become darkened for a period of time. Someday, the Lord God will darken them to show His fierce anger and wrath against the evil of mankind.  People have a desire to worship the creature more than the Creator!

“Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and he shall destroy the sinner thereof out of it.  For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.” Isaiah 13:9-10

Mankind today has an eclipse of their hearts, by turning to darkness than the true light Himself. John 1:9, “That was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Many songs have been written about the moon: Blue Moon, Moon Over Miami, Shine on Harvest Moon, By the Light of the Silvery Moon, Moonlight Serenad, moon River and of course, Dean Martin’s popular song, “When the Moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s Amore!”

But all mankind must worship the maker of the moon only.

“And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 66:23

This post really shed new “light” about the moon to me. I just never thought about people who worship the moon. Another great point was:
Someday, the Lord God will darken them to show His fierce anger and wrath against the evil of mankind. People have a desire to worship the creature more than the Creator! Another well said post!! I’m looking forward to Sunday mornings for these!!
