Hey there Bible Challenge readers! So glad to see you this Friday- hope you’ll check in and let us know how you’re doing with the reading so we can keep one another encouraged!

For the hearts of Dads everywhere, we are grateful. Whether fatherhood graciously welcomed you or slapped you across the face, your tenacity and faithfulness to the brand of “Dad” is one to be recognized. And so I humbly write this:

ode to dad

Ode to Dad

Wrinkled and pink, that first blink of eye
wrapped all masculinity
around the tiniest of fingers.

A heartbeat transformed into reality,
from black and white ultrasound screen
into flesh and blood.

As time weaved seconds into minutes,
a new title was birthed along with the baby:
Dad.

Before long the tapestry of time included
the first “DaDa”
days at the zoo
toys and parks
birthdays and Christmas.

Daddy, you never knew
a child could bring out so much of your heart.
Or spirit.
Or that someone could make you laugh as hard…
or blow as much steam out of your ears.

Whether forming a manhunt for a missing pacifier
or dishing out driving instructions with white knuckles,
you offer security and confidence where none exists.

Most of all, you love unconditionally,
opening your arms after mistakes are made…
just like your Heavenly Father does for you.

For all this and more,
we salute you and love you…

After all,

you

are

Dad.

Much love to my dad and to my husband for the incredible Daddy he is.

And I can’t forget to wish my dad a happy birthday! Love you so much, Dad!

What makes your dad “the dad?”
