The past couple months of life with COVD-19 has been challenging for our family, as it has been for many of you.

As I look toward summer, I am realizing more and more that this summer will be unlike others because we are truly living in unprecedented times. Discussions on pandemic, racism and rioting are family dinner topics. Life is strange to say the least.

I don’t have enormous words of wisdom to offer for a cure or process or solution to the topics above, but I do know one thing. Christians, now is the time to grow as close to the Lord as we possibly can. We must be in prayer. We must experience the presence of God. We need Him to hear us and bring healing.

June’s Bible reading plan topic is:

In His Presence

If you are asking questions like:

How do I know when God is speaking to me?

How do I recognize the presence of God ?

then this Bible reading plan is for you!

INTRODUCTION

Each month I host a monthly Bible reading plan and journal challenge to help our community enjoy reading God’s Word together and encourage our hearts to be faithful to Him.  Together, we have completed over 35 Bible reading plans, including both annual and monthly reading challenges. I’ve developed all sorts of strategies to help us read God’s word faithfully and there is nothing like this monthly system we are working through together.

June 2020 BIBLE READING CHALLENGE

If anyone had asked, they would have said it was impossible. Jesus was passing through town and the most unlikely character to want a front-row seat could see only the crowd. The idea that this rich man, a tax collector, wanted to see Jesus seemed ridiculous to most. That particular day the unlikely happened; a wee little man climbed a sycamore tree so he could see God in the flesh. Jesus saw him and invited himself over to have dinner with Zacchaeus, a well-known sinner.

But there are facts to this story that draw me in more than any of the above details. When I recently read Zacchaeus’ story in Luke 19:1-10, I noticed three points. First, Zacchaeus hurried down from the tree when Jesus called him. Then, he received Jesus joyfully. Finally, he changed in the presence of Jesus.

THE CHILDREN’S SONG

The children’s song about Zacchaeus ends this way, “And as the Savior passed that way, he looked up in the tree, and he said, ‘Zacchaeus, you come down. For I’m going to your house today. For I’m going to your house to stay.'”

I never understood that part of the song when I was a kid. I envisioned an eternal sleepover. And that sounded fun! No wonder everyone smiled at the end of the song, right?

You see, after Jesus came to visit, he never really left. Oh, his body walked out the door, but his spirit remained. Zacchaeus was a changed man who opened not only the door of his house, but also the door of his heart.

Oh that I might follow Zacchaeus’ lead as I read through this topical Bible reading plan! I pray that I would rush to get to his feet and spend time with Jesus. I want to joyfully enjoy moments in God’s Word and prayer. And yes, I want to be forever changed through drawing closer to him. This is what happens when we enjoy the gift of his presence!! I can hardly wait!

Rachel, I’m having problems with ordering the download – there doesn’t seem to be a “complete order” button that I can determine on the page – I’ve tried clicking on the PayPal logo but nothing happens. I’ve tried on my iPad as well as my laptop computer but can’t find a way to access PayPal. Looking forward to this plan!
