Over the past few weeks, I’ve been asked to recommend Bible studies to ladies who are both in groups or simply searching for new, accessible material for their individual study time. Today I am outlining 5 of the best Bible studies for women that I recommend and my hope is that you will find one or two that God is guiding you to do!
These studies are ones that I’ve completed within the last two years. In random order, here they are:
1. Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst
“Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman’s desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen.” Interestingly enough, though much of this book is about food and satisfying our cravings with God, as someone who doesn’t have the struggle of food in particular (trust me- got plenty of others), I found the Biblical principles in this book and DVD series very applicable to any overwhelming habits or addictions. Lysa now offers another series as follow-up to the first (which I REALLY want to see) and tons of other practical resources for this series.
2. Philippians by Darlene Schacht
Darlene, The Time-Warp Wife, offers 3 FREE Bible Study Ebooks, perfect for short self-studies or she also offers online Bible studies using these guides. While Philippians is a short book of the Bible, at only four chapters, Darlene describes it as packed full of joy and grace. I love the way she so easily takes the lessons and applies them to real, everyday life. Her other studies include Esther and Ruth and if you like her Facebook page, you can get all three studies for FREE.
3. A Confident Heart by Renee Swope
I first received “A Confident Heart” in the fall of 2011 and poured over it fairly quickly after that. My copy is now full of underlined words and highlighted phrases that spoke to my heart as I read it- 3 times! If you have ever doubted that you are simply “enough” for God’s plan in your life, then this book will help you overcome those doubts and believe the truth of God’s Word that says YOU ARE ENOUGH because of Christ. Renee is offering her fabulous online Bible study beginning April 1, 2013 and this is one online study that you won’t want to miss. Full review HERE.
4. Pursuing More Of Jesus by Anne Graham Lotz
Anne’s gentle, yet direct, manner of speaking delights my heart. Her storytelling ability ignites my spirit and I just love the way she speaks Jesus all over this study. This study is one that I’ve completed twice and both times, I felt I could do it all over again. If settling into the Christian life enough to slide by is the farthest thing from your mind, then the messages in this series will be just the thing to encourage you to continually seek Jesus. Anne unfolds the details of the Last Supper through Scripture beautifully in this 6 session DVD series.
5. Let.It.Go – How to Stop Running the Show and Start Walking In Faith by Karen Ehman
The local Proverbs 31 ministries Gather & Grow group that I lead just completed this study. Let. It. Go. delivered 6 weeks of DVD sessions that had us both laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time! Karen is such a fun speaker and her honesty about her own “control freak nature” keeps this study practical and relational. This book is such a great book about giving God the control that is already His. You can find a full review HERE.
I plan to do a follow up post or two with more Bible studies I recommend. How about you? What Bible studies do you recommend? I’d love to read about them in the comments!
Thanks ladies for all your comments. I have recently been praying about doing a Bible study and this list is soooo helpful. Wish we could all talk over them over coffee! Have a great day. May God bless each and every one of you as you study.
Oh Kim! Wish we could! I’ve got another list coming this week since this one had such a great response. I think I’ll post it Wednesday. Blessings to you!
Love the lists. I really enjoyed Beth Moore’s study on the Patriarchs. Also found Ray Vanderlaan’s Faith Lessons ~
That the World May Know fascinating.
Amen to the above! I would also include “LifeReady Woman” with content from Shaunti “For Women Only” Feldhahn and Robert “Men’s Fraternity” Lewis. Powerful and super applicable to all ages and stages.
I will have to check out the Philippians study. I just finished one but like to redo a book of the bible…I have read James about 5-7 times now.
I have also done “Confident Heart” and “Let it Go”.
But, I have also done and enjoyed:
Liz Curtis Higgs: “The Girl’s Still Got It” (A study on Ruth)
Plus, my first online bible study was with Jenny Smith’s “Seriously God”
I like just about anything by Beth Moore or Priscilla Shirer too.
Great group. I am definitely doing Rene’s study and looking forward to it! I also love Anne Graham Lotz! The Ehman book is also on my To Do List! Thanks, Rachel.
This is my list of favorite Bible Studies:
