Wow- the time has been flying with the June Bible reading challenge! Summer always passes quickly for me and I can hardly believe we are already 12 days into this challenge. Normally I post the Bible reading challenge weekly summary on Fridays, but Friday was a travelling day for our family. My dad turns 79 this week and over the weekend my extended family gathered to celebrate. Popsicles, cornhole games, water balloons, and mountain air make a magical combination. Let’s look back and review the Soul Secure: Winning Over Worry Bible reading summary week 1. Ready?
Psalm 127:1-5
Pursuing success on our own without the Lord is a waste. Sometimes I’ve laid awake at night, trying to come up with solutions that aren’t mine to give. You too? Worry will keep you up at night and anxious by day. But resting in the arms of our beloved Savior drives away worry. Have a thriving Thursday knowing that God had everything under control! #soulsecurejournal #winningoverworry #biblereading #biblereadingplan #biblejournaling
Isaiah 35:1-10
Waiting is not my forte. Waiting often causes worry for me. Maybe you too? Read Day 2 of the #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan : Isaiah 35:1-10. One day the wait will be over and my sweet girlie, Taylor, will be given a new body without any limitations. She will walk and talk and sing better than she did even years ago on this earth. My God’s got it all under control. He has your situation too. Be strong. Don’t be afraid. Don’t worry and fret; your God will change your situation at the perfect time!! #winningoverworry #biblereading
So very thankful for the strength of the Lord. Say to those who have an anxious heart: Your God will come and save you. #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan #biblereading #winningoverworry
Jeremiah 17:5-10
Is not anxious about the drought. Cause the drought is going to come, you know? Whether it’s a dry friendship, stale church, crusty marriage, physical sickness, mental illness, empty bank account or crusty heart, drought comes to all without exception. How do we prevent anxiety over it? Get into God’s Word, crawl into the Father’s lap and snuggle up as close as you possibly can, listening to the Spirit speaking words of affirmation to you: “You are blessed because you trust me.” What a way to begin a superb Saturday!! #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan #biblereading #winningoverworry
Matthew 6:22-34
Jesus knew exactly when to ask questions and this one is pointed. Does fretting about things improve them? Even change them slightly? No. Let God be God and surrender anew to his plan, his will, and his timing this morning! #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan #biblereading #winningoverworry
Luke 12:22-31
If it feels like today’s #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan is similar to yesterday’s, that’s because it is. Repetition is the key to learning. Our God knows our needs before we even know that we need them. Looking to Him today once again! Have a marvelous Monday! #biblereading #winningoverworry
So what is journaling all about? Why is it so important to me? Paul told us in 2 Corinthians 10 to take every thought captive to obey Christ. Y’all, sometimes I don’t even know what my thoughts are until I start writing them down. How can I take them captive? How can I yield them to the Lord? By identifying them. Calling them out. And I don’t mean once a year. Nope, it’s a daily discipline. This month we are using Paul’s strategy against worry. It was the perfect tool for me even today as my younger son had tonsil surgery! Want to challenge yourself spiritually? Write out those thoughts daily, training your mind in Scripture, and watch the renewal that results! #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan #winningoverworry (this is the journaling example in this month’s journal) ????
Philippians 4:1-7
I’ve often seen verse 6 of today’s #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan outlined. But I feel it is so much easier to follow through when verse 5 is added. The Lord is right beside you. His presence calms chaotic hearts. When you go to Him in prayer, he listens and already has a plan!! #winningoverworry #biblereading
1 Peter 5:1-7
There’s an interesting phenomenon that happens in our brains when we are anxious and worried. The truth is that worry and anxiety are the result of pride. We want to be in control instead of giving God the control. We want our way more than we want God’s way. Interesting too, is that Paul sandwiches this verse about anxiety between the importance of two facts. 1. Humbling ourselves to God’s will and timing is priority if we want his best for us. 2. The enemy is doing everything he can to keep us from God’s plan. If he can disable us through worry and fret, then it’s an easy win for him. I read to the end of the chapter this morning for today’s #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever.” To HIM this morning! Kick anxiety to the curb, tell the Devil to hush it, and have a winning Wednesday! #biblereading #winningoverworry
Hebrews 13:1-7
One of the most pressing worries is the fear of the unknown. It’s easy to “What if?” ourselves right into a frenzy of fret, doubting God and his love for us. When bad things happen to good people, this worry becomes more prevalent. Today’s #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan closes on these words: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. His fierce love and protection for our future has not changed and never will. Have a thriving Thursday knowing that he’s still got the whole world in his hands! #winningoverworry #biblereading
Whenever a Bible verse is a command, I often personalize the verse by inserting my name. “Rachel, do not be anxious.” What is one thing you are worried about that you can give to God right now? #soulsecurejournal #winningoverworry #biblereadingplan #biblereading
Psalm 121:1-8
Taylor experienced 1 seizure yesterday and 1 last night just after my last Instagram post. We praise the Lord for the victory she has had over seizures for the last 5 weeks. Pray for her today? Our family is scheduled to travel. I know today’s #soulsecurejournal #biblereadingplan speaks to our hearts. Psalm 121: I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from allevil;
he will keep your life.
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore. Hope your Friday is filled with this knowledge!! #biblereading #winningoverworry
Update on Taylor:
I was able to get her showered last night. She is still lethargic but eating and drinking well. We count our blessings and not burdens.
May your week be worry-free and filled with the promises of God.
By his grace,
Rachel
