Certain through Uncertainty

Certain through Uncertainty- isn’t this what we really want? To walk through a predictable world without a single doubt? I saw a meme the other day that said, “I would like to live in precedented times, please.” Maybe you too?

I’m a planner. I like life organized and part of the fun for me? Knowing and anticipating what is coming up next.

Maybe you haven’t adapted the scout’s motto of “Be Prepared,” but you don’t appreciate not knowing what’s coming around the bend. I feel ya, Friend. The feeling of uncertainty taxes our minds and causes continuous thoughts of “What if?”

What if _________ happens?

What if _________ doesn’t happen?

What if I lose my ___________?

What if I don’t find __________?

What if I need ___________?

Uncertainty can easily lead to worry, fear, and panic, except when we know the Lord! We can rest in God’s promises that while earthly life is uncertain and often unpredictable, God is never-changing. And not only is He never-changing? He has a plan for our lives. We can believe Him in all things!

August’s Bible reading plan topic is:

Certain through Uncertainty

I was reading the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11 earlier this month when one phrase seemed as though it was highlighted in bold.

I’ve read Hebrews 11 a number of times. In fact, it’s one of my go-to Scriptures when I need a boost of encouragement. But this time, it seemed like the Holy Spirit was waving a red flag over the words:

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. Hebrews 11:8

You see, sometimes we don’t have a clue what God has around the bend for us. Our next step is simply to follow what we know to do for today. It’s the next right thing, only it might go moment to moment instead of day to day or week to week or month to month.

Won’t you join me in reminding ourselves that we have the power to walk by faith and not by sight?

INTRODUCTION to the Challenge

Each month I host a monthly Bible reading plan and journal challenge to help our community enjoy reading God’s Word together and encourage our hearts to be faithful to Him.  Together, we have completed over 35 Bible reading plans, including both annual and monthly reading challenges. I’ve developed all sorts of strategies to help us read God’s word faithfully and there is nothing like this monthly system we are working through together.
