Ever feel like you just can’t go another step? I’ve been there. Today is one of those days when I needed to savor my go-to list of Bible verses for when you feel like giving up.
Recently I’ve been especially hard on myself and I’ve thought, “Why am I going through these feelings again? I should know better by now. I’ve walked this journey before. I guess I didn’t learn the lesson last time.”
After all, I should be a pro on what to do when you feel like giving up, right? I wrote an entire book about learning how to take life one step at a time and finding strength when you feel like giving up.
But guess what? I believe the Lord is so sweet to us when we walk with him. Sometimes he gives me the privilege of reading my own material and gently whispering,
“Remember how I spoke to your heart in those moments? I want to do the same thing now. I haven’t changed. My word is still true.
The strength I gave you then is available to you now. “
Whether it’s a relationship, a job, a heart issue, etc., that feeling of just throwing in the towel seems like a great solution, at least temporarily. It goes so much deeper too. When we feel like giving up, we feel like all the steps we have taken so far have been useless because they haven’t yielded results. We’re looking for the finish line and God is still working in the situation.
While there are times where change is necessary and inevitable, that’s not giving up.
Change isn’t giving up; doing nothing is giving up.
Maybe today is the day you need to change your definition of success. Or the pattern of your choices. Or your expectation of the results.
Most importantly, perhaps like me, you simply need the reminder that the strength for the battle? It doesn’t come from your own reserve.
Strength for life’s journey comes from the Lord. Hallelujah! The battle is his.

Thank you, exactly what is needed. God’s timing is always perfect, I was having/am having those feeling first thing this morning again, was praying for guidance and when I opened my tablet for my quiet time I saw this.
Thank you Rachel for this beautiful reminder to not give up. I needed these verses today so much. The last several years have been extremely difficult for me in a lot of ways. Divorce a year ago after 43 years has been the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through and to read your letters to Taylor have blessed me so much. Today though, your email waiting for me was straight from God! Thank you for caring about people you don’t even know. Your words mean so much to me when I’ve felt so sad and alone. I hope you know how important you are to those of us who feel like giving up. ❤️
Hi Rhonda,
I was blessed to come across this message from Rachel too. Please know I’m praying for you – that you remember whose you are! God has your heart!
Hugs
