bible reading challenge day 26

all pro dad

All Pro Dad by Mark Merrill is an incredible parenting book that I’m excited to present to you today. Most of the parenting books I have read are written from a neutral or maternal viewpoint. All Pro Dad is written for dads, by a dad. This book provides tools to win not just the game or parenting, but to win the hearts and minds of your children through long-term love. As a practical guidebook, this book is an awesome tool that boils down seven essential points to being a hero to your kids.

The first chapter of this book gives a fundamental outline of fatherhood according to the Bible. Then each subsequent chapter outlines what a father needs to know about himself with a collaborating question. For example, Chapter 2 is Know your Makeup- Who Am I? Each chapter ends with a short list of questions to discuss with your child/children. At the end of chapter 2, the questions are:

  • What is most important- who you are or what people think of you? Why?
  • What are three words that describe you?
  • What is one thing you think you are really good at? I’ve noticed you’re really good at __________.

I really believe this book is fabulous because the author doesn’t set himself up as having arrived at being an all pro dad, but continually striving to be an all pro dad. The practical guidance of this book makes for a great blueprint for family structure.

What characteristics do you feel make up an all pro dad?
