9 Family Favorite Bible Games

At the beginning of the cooler temperatures here  in Ohio, my thoughts have turned towards more indoor activities for spending great family time together. My husband is a true board game lover and when I tell you I don’t know how many board games he has, I really mean it.

“A whoooooole yot,” as my three year old would say.

Both my husband and I grew up in church and each of us also grew up playing Bible games. You may have caught on to our love for Bible trivia if you watched us on American Bible Challenge. What I only recently came to realize is how many board games also have a Bible edition of the game! With the season of board game playing upon us, I thought I’d share my discoveries with you. You ready? In no particular order, here we go:

1. Apples to Apples Bible Edition
We love Apples to Apples because it’s a great game when everyone is tired and has had a long day or week. This game doesn’t require a ton of strategy or put a strain on the brain, but it’s loads of fun.

• Age Group: Age 8 and up (I have found if children are proficient in reading, they can play this game at ages 6&7)
• Number of Players: 4-10
• Discontinued by Manufacturer, but the Bible edition is still available on Amazon.

2. Bible Taboo
Taboo is a word game played by getting your team players to say the word at the top of the card without saying the word. So “Moses” could be described with single words, such as “Egyptian” “Miriam” “Pharaoh” “river.”

• Age Group: Age 10 and up
• Number of Players: 4-10, must have an even number
• Well-loved by Amazon reviewers.

3. Cactus Games Scattergories-Bible Edition
Scattergories has long been one of my personal favorite board games. My inner word geek and Bible study lover are united through this game. This game is played as individuals and requires your thinking cap to be engaged.

• Age Group: Age 10 and up
• Number of Players: 2-4
• The links above are for the Bible edition. On Amazon, there is also a Catholic edition. You want to be sure you order appropriately according to the desired preference.

4. Cranium Bible Edition

Cranium is definitely a thinking game, but much enjoyment can be found from all the different creative roles the players display throughout this game. We haven’t played the standard version of this game at our house, nor have we played the Bible edition, because most of our game players are much younger than the recommended age. However, for those of you with teens or if you host small groups, etc., this game would be a great match!

• Age Group: Age 13 and up
• Number of Players: 4 or more
• This game is not specific to a Bible version.

5. (by Cadaco) Bible “Trivia” Game: The Game Where Trivia Is Not Trivial, 5400 Questions, Two Games in One, Fully Referenced, Scripturally Sound
Now I know it’s looking a little retro, but this Bible Trivia game is the one we have here at home and it is so fun. Very detailed and based on the KJV Bible version, this trivia game will keep you both thinking and learning.

• Age Group: Age 8 and up ( I think kids would benefit from the Children’s version, which I’ve listed next.)
• Number of Players: 2-12
• This game is specific to the King James Version.

6. Children’s Bible Trivia Game (1984)

And here we have the children’s version of the Bible Trivia game mentioned above. Both of these games are dated back to the 1980’s, but many of my favorite games are the older ones. So I had to share with you that these old games are awesome!

• Age Group: Age 6 and up
• Number of Players: 2-6
• This game is specific to the King James Version.

7.Bible Search Thee Game

I thought you might enjoy seeing one more retro style game. Bible Search is the actual Bible trivia game I grew up playing with my parents and 8 siblings. We passed many winter evenings playing this game after dinner and I was surprised to see you can still find it around. However, I can’t find the details on recommended ages or number of players, etc.

8. Bible Sequence
Our family really loves Sequence and this game is great when you have 3 or 4 players. We’ve never played the Bible version of this game, but my understanding is that the Bible version isn’t played any differently. There is no Bible knowledge required, but the picture cards do increase familiarity with Bible characters.

• Age Group: Age 7 and up- I think 6 year olds will be challenged a bit, but could play depending on logic skills.
• Number of Players: 2-12, but teams are played with 4 or more players
• Fun, easy to play, game passes quickly.

9.Guesstures: Bible Edition
Guesstures is another one of those board games I grew up playing with my family. We have some great memories of getting a little crazy with the inability to speak and only acting, like the time my dad ran to the fridge and grabbed a gallon of milk on his turn. 🙂 This game is basically charades on steroids, which makes it a ton of fun.

• Age Group: Age 12 and up, another great one for teens!
• Number of Players: 4 or more players
• Fun, easy to play, and doesn’t require a ton of Bible knowledge.This is a fun game for those not as familiar with Bible facts.

I have to tell you, I’m convinced it is. And this book is all about taking steps to make that joyful home a reality for all of us.
