You’ve Got Mail

I’ve never had an AOL account. But Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in “You’ve Got Mail” sure made me wish that I did.
They were just so…relevant in that movie.
This afternoon my sweet second grader received a birthday party invitation.
The old-fashioned way.
By regular ol’ US mail.
And she was SOOO excited.
As soon as I called the envelope to her attention, she snapped up from her seat, ran towards me, and grabbed it eagerly. She stared but only for a second. After reading her name on the front, she ripped the envelope open, not caring at all what happened to it. She just wanted to get the center.
What was the purpose of this mail?
And there…in all its glory…was a birthday party invitation. (cue grand music, spot lights, and curtain rising)
Grand and glorious, it beckoned her to a place, time and event in the future for which she has to prepare. She will buy a gift, dress in accordance with the theme, and mark the date on the calendar. For backup, the invitation is on the front of the frig, where it is blazingly certain not to be forgotten. (is that a word…blazingly?)
She is thrilled and has gone by the frig pleasantly.
Pausing just to read the words on the invitation.
Again.
And, well, if you’ve been reading my blog long, you know that I started brainstorming (pretty easy when your brain is a natural disaster to begin with) and the Holy Spirit said:
Sure would be awesome if you were that excited about My Word.
And I just responded:
It sure would.
