Welcome to the With Thanks Bible Reading Plan & Journal Challenge! I’m so excited to share with you how God has been working in my heart in preparation for November’s Bible reading challenge. If you know that giving thanks to God is important, but you also would like to work on following through, then you’re going to love this month’s Bible reading plan & journal!
Behind the Plan
And they brought in the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord and distributed to all Israel, both men and women, to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins. Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel. 1 Chronicles 16:1-4
King David longed to restore the ark of the covenant to its rightful place within Israel. The ark had been created as a place for the Lord’s presence to reside among his people. After being tossed around from city to city by the enemies, the ark rested in the city of Kiriath-Jearim, about 9 miles north of Jerusalem. David longed for the presence of the Lord to return to his people so he pitched a tent and called for the Levites to bring the ark back to Jerusalem. The ark was returned to the city and all the people rejoiced.
Seems like all should be good, right? David did his part of following the Lord’s commands in how the ark was to be cared for. He brought it back to its rightful place. Surely, he did his duty. But David went a step beyond and assigned specific jobs to the Levites, the people God had appointed to care for the ark. I can hear the street talk now.
“I heard the ark is back in Jerusalem. Did you know they are hiring Levites?” “Yeah, I actually put in my application and I already received a position. I’m in the thanks and praise department.”
I love that David believed thanksgiving and praise to the Lord was so very important that he appointed them as special duties to the Levites. Would you or I have enough experience to apply? Let’s go after it!
WITH THANKS BIBLE READING PLAN AND JOURNAL CHALLENGE
Welcome to the With Thanks Bible reading challenge! If you’ve never joined a Bible reading challenge here before, each day we follow the plan and read the passage. You can share what you are learning on social media or just keep it between you and God. My goal through the reading is to draw closer to Jesus, and I want that for you too!
For this month, we will use the hashtags #withthanksjournal #gratitudejournal and #biblereadingplan. Almost every day, I post on Instagram or Facebook about what I’m learning through the passages and sometimes I post the Bible journaling pages I work on throughout the study.
On Fridays, I post a summary of what I learned through the week here on the blog and invite you to share what God is teaching you in the comments.
ABOUT THE BIBLE READING PLAN AND JOURNAL
Last November, God began working in my heart to step the monthly Bible Reading Challenge up another notch. Personally the Lord has convinced me that soaking in his word each day is the best soul treatment I could possibly encounter. So while our community has completed Bible reading challenges for several years, I knew God was asking me to provide a stronger tool than the simple Bible reading plan I offer each month.
As a result, I created a Bible reading plan and journal combination. This resource is designed to provide a topical theme for 31 days of Bible reading passages. Topical Bible reading plans are fantastic for folks seeking to study a certain subject in the Bible or people who really want to be accountable to be in the Word for themselves on a daily basis. They are also great for new Christians who aren’t sure where or how to get started reading their Bible.
IMPORTANT NOTE
I truly long to provide practical, spiritual resources because I know that is a work God has called me to do. Throughout this year, I have made changes to the format. A couple months back, I expanded the journal from one page a day to two pages a day, and yet I believe it is still something the average person can complete within a reasonable span of time on a personal level.
If you’re looking for an in-depth Bible study, these slim Bible study guides may not be the right fit for you. (Check out this FREE video Bible study for more depth!) I designed these particular Bible reading plans and journals to be doable on a consistent, daily basis.
