Hey there! Our family is off to a great start with reading this summer and I’m excited about that. Monday was the first day off school- the perfect day to begin our Summer Bible Reading program. If you missed it, we’re reading the gospel of John through from a six week plan I created. You can download the free printable schedule here. Let me know how it goes!
And then Tuesday we hit the local branch of our metropolitan library and signed up for the summer reading program. So the binder we keep in the kitchen has a Bible reading schedule, a chore chart/ daily checklist and a summer reading program checklist for each child. I like that we are organized- now to maintain it!
Today is a Tommy Nelson day with a book suited perfectly for ages 8-11. “Search & Rescue” by Colleen Coble has been enjoyed in short increments by my 9 yr old girlie for a couple weeks. This book is the very first in a middle grade fiction series, entitled Rock Harbor. The series is based on Colleen’s adult fiction series of the same title. With a mixture of pets, adventure, suspense and mystery, this book is fabulous for summer reading!
My daughter did say that what has kept her reading this book is the mystery element. She hasn’t finished the book yet though. So that could change- after all she’s 9. And female.
So I’m guessing you’d love to win a copy of Search & Rescue for someone you know ages 8-11. And I’m happy to be giving away a copy of this fab book today. In fact, I feel so generous, I’ll leave the giveaway open through tomorrow. Just in case you decide to tell your neighbor about it or something like that.
(Addendum: Here’s the link if you want to order the book- it’s going quickly!)
Thanks for entering; see you tomorrow!

My daughter would love this book!!!!
Both my 10 year old daughter and 6 year old son love to read so much that they do it by themselves. They actually get sad when they don’t get to read 🙂
My 9 yr old girlie just LOVES to read and Mystery are one of her favorites. She would love to win this book. We too have signed up for the Summer Reading Club. Thanks for the chance to win this.
It has become a challenge to find wholesome books at the library, and it seems that the new ones being written don’t make it to the library because the children don’t have an interest in them which is so sad. I love it when I hear about those new books, even if it means we have to have our own little home library. Can’t wait to read it.
I took my kids to the library on Tuesday to start their summer reading too. My son is constantly looking for new books to read. I think this would be a great addition to his library. Thanks for the giveaway!
My 8 year old daughter is ADDICTED to reading!! She’s read the entire Little House series 3 or 4 times! She’s totally jonesing for a new read!!
My daughter and I are avid readers. When she was younger we would read the same book or series. We would also have so much fun reading on a blanket at the park. She is now 13 and we have kept this going.
Thank you for the opportunity to win the book, Search & Rescue. I’m tutoring an 8 yr old this summer in reading and am always looking for book ideas to keep her excited about reading!
My kids love to read!! We participate in reading programs at local libraries throughout the Summer.
Today is our first day of summer break. It is a rainy start to the summer, but a good day to just be at home and start digging into our reading challenges(thanks for the Bible challenge, too). The book sounds interesting! My 9 yr old daughter likes mysteries as does her mom. I will have to look for the adult series by the author as well. Thanks for the book review!
We are also part of a summer reading program at our library. Although, my 10 yr. old loves reading. She hides books all over the house to read when she should be doing other things:)
Thanks for the great tips and sounds like an interesting book for the kids! 🙂
I try each summer to join the reading club at the library. We’ve never been great at sticking to it though. I’m planning on doing it again this year. And we’ll also start your summer Bible reading plan next Monday.
My 9 yr old would probably like this. Thanks for the opportunity to win it.
My 8 year old grand daughter loves mysteries and loves to read. This will be perfect for her.
