Welcome to the Confident Trust Bible reading challenge for April!

Trust is a strong word, isn’t it? I can remember a sermon illustration about trust from when I was a child. My pastor placed a chair across the room and began to talk about how much he trusted that chair would be a great fit for him. He walked closer and closer to it, describing its beauty and strength. He even explained how he sat in the chair one time and how comfortable it was. But once he arrived by the chair, he did not sit down. Instead, he stood there and talked about the chair at some length. “I believe this chair will hold me up,” he said, “but until I actually sit down on the chair, expecting it to allow me to sit safely and comfortably, then I’m believing, but not trusting. Do you see the difference?”

Oh my. Yes. It’s easy to talk about God and how wonderful he is. I truly enjoy telling about all the incredible ways God has worked in my life in the past. He is amazing and I can’t say that enough. But if I’m totally honest with you, trusting him fully can sometimes be a stretch for me. I stand at the chair of certain circumstances, like my daughter, Taylor’s, terminal diagnosis, and say, “That chair is not comfortable and way too hard. It’s going to break. I don’t like that chair.” I’m continually learning this lesson of Confident Trust: believing God’s plan is best. Even this month as I prepared this journal for you, trusting God to do the work stretched me. I know you only have a few days to order and be ready to begin journaling alongside the Bible reading challenge on Saturday. I am doing my best to continue producing a journal each month; it’s a challenge for me! But keep in mind that this journal is designed to do as an individual Bible reading plan and journal or a small group plan and journal; you can begin anytime!

About the BIBLE READING PLAN AND JOURNAL

Last November, God began working in my heart to step the monthly Bible Reading Challenge up another notch. Personally the Lord has convinced me that soaking in his word each day is the best soul treatment I could possibly encounter. So while our community has completed Bible reading challenges for several years, I knew God was asking me to provide a stronger tool than the simple Bible reading plan I offer each month.

As a result, I created a Bible reading plan and journal combination. This tool is designed to provide a topical theme to a month of Bible reading passages. Topical Bible reading plans are great for folks looking to study a certain subject in the Bible. They are also great for new Christians who aren’t sure where or how to get started reading their Bible on a regular basis. This is what one of our readers wrote about the Perfect Peace journal we’ve been working through in March:

This is my third Bible plan and journal. Perfect Peace came at a time when I needed peace in my life! As always through this study God showed me just what I needed. I will continue with these wonderful daily studies as long as they are available.

I truly long to provide practical, spiritual resources because I know that is a work God has called me to do. So these journals are one page a day- something the average person can complete within a reasonable span of time. If you’re looking for an in-depth Bible study, these slim Bible study guides may not be the right fit for you. (Check out this FREE video Bible study for more depth!) I designed these particular Bible reading plans and journals to be doable on a consistent, daily basis.

I mean, what would happen if you enjoyed a beautiful buffet, but that was the only time you ate all week? You’d be hungry, right?

CONFIDENT TRUST BIBLE READING CHALLENGE

If you’ve never joined a Bible reading challenge here before, each day we follow the plan and read the passage. You can share what you are learning on social media or just keep it between you and God. My goal through the reading is to draw closer to Jesus, and I want that for you too!

For this month, we will use the hashtags #confidentrustjournal and #biblereadingplan. Almost every day, I post on Instagram or Facebook about what I’m learning through the passages and sometimes I post the Bible journaling pages or handlettering I work on throughout the study.

On Fridays, I post a summary of what I learned through the week here on the blog and invite you to share what God is teaching you in the comments.

    Rachel,
I am ever so grateful for the time and effort you put into putting together a journal each month. I am sure it is quite an undertaking, but please know that it reaps such wonderous blessings – at least it has in my life since starting your bible journaling last December! I truly feel like I have grown more deeply in the knowledge and wisdom of God – who He is, His love, His JOY, His Peace – through the extended scripture readings, your posts, and my time in thought and prayer. Beyond that, I have been able to settle into a comfortable and confident understanding of how very cherished I am in His story – in a way I have never felt before. 🙂 Thank you for trusting Him each and every month as you continue to share your bible reading plans. I am so grateful!
    Wishing you many blessings!
    Carol 🙂

    1. You are such a blessing, sweet Carol!! Thank you for your continued encouragement. 🙂 God is gracious!!
