More Than We Can Ask or Imagine and Whimsical Wednesday Linkup

Sometimes we limit God, don’t you think? We put Him in a box, without even realizing it. Then we place the lid firmly on that box because we know just what is needed in the situation. We might even tie a pretty bow around the box, just to make it look like we have our act together and all.
How do we do this?
Just by being human. You see, we may not intend to limit God, but our minds just aren’t capable of grasping the whole picture. Even the most sound intellectual minds of our age aren’t capable of thinking higher than the Creator of the Universe.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
When I try to wrap my head around the intricacy of God’s plan for the entire world, my mind nearly explodes. So when I go to God in prayer with my “agenda,” I’m sure if I were him, I’d be shaking my head at me. While he loves to hear my voice and listen to my heart, he wants to give me more than I ask him for.
Doesn’t it seem strange to be afraid to ask God for too much? It’s as if we think we are standing in line at the school cafeteria and God just dollops a spoonful of potatoes on our plate. We really love mashed potatoes and want to ask for more, but well, potatoes are a starch and they just can’t be too good for a person.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, Ephesians 3:20
This is God’s Word saying:
Girl, God’s not only got your mashed potatoes; He’ll give you a whole plate of them if you’re that hungry. And he knows you love gravy. Yep- get yourself some gravy. That gravy is better than any you’ve ever tasted before.
Ok, so that’s my loose interpretation but truthfully?
God’s plan for your life extends far beyond your mind’s creativity level.
God’s plan for you exceeds your logical ability to request from him and you can’t even begin to imagine what He has in store for you.
So go ahead. Love him. Ask for more. Dream bigger.
Because he loves you. That. Much.

So I’m asking a big question today:
If you could ask God for anything, what would it be?
I’m challenging you to share it with us–
that prayer you’ve been praying for 10 years…
or that dream you’ve thought the Holy Spirit was whispering to your heart, but you’ve been afraid to say out loud….
Or that silly little thing you haven’t taken to God because you know that it’s just “too small.”
No matter the issue.
Today we’re going to pray for more than we can ask or imagine.
Even more than a second helping of mashed potatoes with gravy.

Just saw this post on pinterest. My one thing I’d ask for is to get that baby my husband and I have been praying/ waiting to adopt for the last 5 years. I know he’s able just in His timing.
Hi Rachel! I was very excited to share my prayers and our big news, but a little nervous too. Me and my husband and three children are about to buy our first home! We made an offer and they accepted! now we are waiting for our Mortgage loan to get approved, home inspection is next week, and just want to get to closing and just feel those keys go into my hand. I have family praying for us, our lender pulling for us and our agent really wanting this for us, so I am crossing my fingers and praying that it goes smoothly. This has been a fast but happy experience. we found a house we really liked and i hope we get it! Thank you Rachel and I appreciate that you do these blogs, and I was able to share, it really helped!! lol I needed to get it out and express happiness but unsure too about what they will do. Thanks

Please pray for me that I will find employment quickly. I am a single women and have a home with monthly bills. I a 52 years old and have never been in this situation before and I am in need of prayer that God will bring provision to help me. Jesus, tonight I pray for Tammy. Lord, you know every detail of her situation and I pray that you would comfort her and provide for her as only you can. We ask you for employment for Tammy and we believe that you have the exact job for her. Please give her the faith to follow through with the steps you want her to take. Guide her and lead her and we praise you for it. Thank you, Tammy, for sharing. It’s a privilege to pray for you and may the Lord provide above and beyond our requests.
We’re sort of on the same wavelength today, Rachel, although riding it in different directions. Great encouragement. My dream/prayer is for God to allow me to make a living as an instrument of encouragement to others (not just encouraging on the fringes). Audacious, I know. But we serve a Big God!

Like others, I have seen this theme for two days. I believe He is speaking to me.
If I could ask for anything, it would be for restoration and wonderful blessings on a new relationship that seems to have stalled. God knows, believe me, he knows, I have been talking to him. This is a man who told me that he had been praying for this and felt that this was ‘God’s will’. Thank you for the link up – what an encouragement for today. I am asking God to open more doors for my speaking ministry.
I’ve been dreaming over the last year. Dreaming for God to work “BIG” in my life as I finish up my teaching career at the end of 2015 and move into the next thing that God has planned for me. I know He is calling me to more and I know He is calling me to be BOLD, I do not know exactly what that looks like but it is exciting. I am reading the book “Restless” by Jennie Allen which is helping me to dream and imagine God-sized dreams. Ephesians 3:20 is great verse to have with me always to be reminded of God’s greatness and love for me and my life! Blessings, my friend!

For my faith to be strengthened. I was saved 2 years ago and my life has wonderfully changed and lately I have been having worried thoughts that creep into my mind. That somehow even though I thought I was saved 2 years ago, that I may have done it wrong and I will spend eternity away from God. It’s this worry and anxiety that I have been praying about for the past couple of months. How can someone who believes so much in this salvation, have so much doubt? Do I believe in God…yes. That Jesus died for me…yes. Have I asked Jesus into my heart…yes. Have I asked forgiveness of my sins…yes. Do I think I am going to heaven…not sure. And at this point I am more terrified of going to hell, than being excited about going to heaven. Am I doing something wrong? Please pray that God strengthen my faith and cast any doubts aside. Thank you
Lord, today I pray for Jeanie that she would feel your strength lifting her up today. Thank you for her salvation and her sincere belief in you. We pray that you would provide strength and discipline for her walk with you and that she would grow close to you in every way. Thank you for your grace and mercy to surround her!
Oh Wow – this has been a recurring theme the Lord keeps laying in my path for the past 9 months or so. We have had such a trying last 14 yrs that I genuinely gave up dreaming. Not that I was bitter toward the Lord or anything – I just had learned to surrender – to say “Thy will be done” and sincerely mean it! Then… all of the sudden (if 9 months can be *sudden*)… He has laid on my heart to dream again – so with much fear and trembling I am allowing myself to dream of being used by Him to publicly write and speak. To encourage Sisters in Christ of His faithfulness in all ways and in all things – even when and especially when – they don’t look the way the world (even the Christian world) says they should. We all struggle with life not *behaving* the way we have it planned out – but God is Sovereign and God is good – and He is not only in the midst of it all…He’s got it all worked out already! Thank you for allowing me to share!! God bless!!

He does have it all worked out!! I wish I could tell you my story of this journey, but it’s sufficient just to tell you that God will guide you every step of the way if you’re willing. I’ve seen it happen and I’ve experienced it first hand. May the Lord continue to impress your heart to dream BIG!
