Just now this sweet baby was sitting so nicely in her exersaucer.
Sweet.
Precious.
Those big blue eyes that even tough men can’t resist. Not that Daddy is a tough guy. Well, he is…but. Ok, backed myself into the corner.
Anyhoo, sweet baby T was sitting there so irresistibly that I impulsively picked her up and just squeezed her, cheek to cheek. Similar to what Daddy is doing in this picture.
And at that moment, I felt something very warm and gooey on my bare arm.
and through my shirt on my stomach.
This is not good. It can’t be good.
And indeed, it wasn’t.
In the process of loving on my gorgeous baby doll, I essentially…
got dirty.
Do you ever walk through this life thinking that loving others is going to be such a piece of cake? We don’t want to “get involved” because, well,
life is messy.
People are messy.
And who wants to get messy?
I mean, face it:
No one likes to get crapped on.
I’m thinking today that we rationalize all of this in our heads, yet there is just one problem that stands out to me. Screams and shouts at me today.
Often called the second commandment:
Mark 12:30-31
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.
Personally, I don’t care about getting baby poop on me. Or having to change my shirt. Or having to give her a bath. The list goes on. Because we are blessed with laundry detergent, stain remover, hot water, and a washing machine.
And that 2 seconds of closeness to my baby girl before the reality of her mess slapped me silly was all worth it.
How about it? Join me in truly showing your love to someone today?
Even when it gets messy.
Loved this, Rachel.
Life is messy, but the rewards are well worth it.
Blessings,
Daphne
