Barbie DVD’s are not my first pick for my girlies to watch, but can I just tell you that they actually have life lessons in them?
In Barbie’s Fairy Secret, two of the girls are at odds, continually bickering with each other and jealous of one another. The entire movie is about their struggle with one another and contains a few snotty attitudes. Needless to say, I decided we aren’t watching this one anymore.
However, Barbie and her “friend” are in a crisis situation and must make their wings fly before they can play their heroine roles. They have the ultimate conversation and talk through their issues with one another. And then the real magic happens. They forgive one another.
At the point of their forgiveness, their wings begin to work. Barbie declares:
Forgiveness lets you fly.
And in spite of all the trivial nonsense, suddenly, Barbie made sense.
Forgiveness does let you fly.
When grudges are carried and nourished, the bearer is held back. Freedom is just ahead, but participating in it is withheld.
So who could use a new set of wings today? Got an expedition you are ready to embark on?
Forgive her.
Forgive him.
Forgive them.
Free yourself to see just how far you can fly.
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Eph. 4:32
Well said Rachel! Seriously, I love it when God shows up in our homes like that! I don’t care much for “Barbie” either. My seven year old Lilly actually tells people that “mommy” hates Barbie. But, your story proves to me that God uses Barbie too, to get His word through! God is so good! ~ Amy
p.s. Maybe I need to forgive Barbie? 😉
