Bible Verses for Overcoming Loneliness

Can you imagine what it was like when God spoke the world into existence?  For five days, he created every living thing. Each day after he completed the work, the Bible says, "And God saw that it was good." I love that the Scripture says that. One of the reasons I love the explanation is because when God arrived at day 6, he created man. And for the first time in the business of creating the world, God saw something was not good. "It is not good that man should be alone..." (Genesis 2:18)

Loneliness was never part of God’s plan. His design is for you to be in relationship with him and in community with others. So if you are feeling lonely, remember that God is always with you and cling to this list of his promises!

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

For my father and my mother have forsaken me,but the LORD will take me in. Psalm 27:10

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

I cry to you, O LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”  Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low! Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me! Bring me out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name! The righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me. Psalm 142:5-7

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20b

O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Psalm 139:1&2

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, Isaiah 44:24

God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. Psalm 68:6a NLT

Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. Psalm 73:23

He is with you.

He will never leave you.

You may be lonely, but you are never alone.

  1. I’m really looking forward to this month was I’m still struggling with empty nest and what is my purpose now that my kids are all grown and away from home. So many other factors, my mother’s passing and estranged relationships. I just need to remember i am not alone.
