All About “Relevant”

However, recently I read an article that fired me up about what the Church is terming to be relevant. You see, we have these little “Christianese” words we use; similar to codes in our belief system. And somehow, the word “relevant” is alluding to a completely different meaning than it should. Suddenly, “relevant” is self-centered. It’s creating a smorgasbord for Christians to “take or leave” what they find applies. We are offering a buffet of God’s Word and providing the option of only giving or receiving “what applies to you.” We are so busy figuring out what is relevant that we fail to let the Holy Spirit work.
Hebrews 4:12 is relevant.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
What happened to “It’s not about me.”?
Is anyone else wondering that?
