You are not a number.

Has anyone ever made you think you were?

Have you ever thought you didn’t matter to anyone…especially to God?

Today I just wanted to tell you…and remind myself…

God creates masterpieces- art of a form we can’t always comprehend.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made….

He took dust and created a man. Who would have thought man could be made from simple dirt? Yet, dust became a form to hold the soul of a human being- one God loves deeply-because He created this soul. Life was breathed into the dust and God’s creation began to breathe.

You are sculpted by God’s grace from nothing…

The work of the sculptor molds and shapes the clay that you are. He smooths and tapers each curve and slant for the exact purpose He intends.

The curves reveal His steadfast love and offer contours of hope for others to see.

Only the Sculptor can finish the masterpiece.

You are loved by the Almighty God of the universe…

So much that He came down from Heaven to live among us. God loves you so much that He sent His Son to die for you. He loves you so much that even after Jesus paid the price for your sin, He was willing to continue to live within the confines of human flesh as the Holy Spirit.

After walking this world and dying for you, God still wants to live inside of you.

This gift provides reassurance of His love. He doesn’t leave you alone.

Why?

Because you are not a number.

you are not a number

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14

But now, O LORD, you are our Father;
we are the clay, and you are our potter;
we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. Jn. 14:17

No, you are anything but a number.

  1. an important reminder of our value to God! Concerned about the statement – “[Jesus] was willing to continue to live within the confines of human flesh as the Holy Spirit.” – the Holy Spirit and Jesus are different Persons, and the Spirit is definitely not confined to the human flesh. When a believer receives Him, He dwells in us and works through us, yes! But He is definitely not confined to us. Maybe a better wording is needed for clarity’s sake.

    1. Thanks so much, Michelle. I meditated on this very statement at length as I was writing. While I understand your point, the part of the Trinity that is beyond our comprehension is that God is one God in three persons. If the Holy Spirit lives in us, then Jesus lives in us- because they are both God. I don’t believe he is confined to only our bodies at all- He’s the Holy Spirit. But he chooses to live in our bodies. Jesus lived in a fleshly body and knew all the limitations that imposes- yet He, as God, was willing to do it again as the Holy Spirit living in me. That He would choose to live in human flesh after experiencing the limitations of human bodies is such a blessing to me!

  2. I read this first thing this morning and was so blessed to be reminded that God loves me more than life and He counts me as one of His blessings! You also referenced my life verse-Psalm 139:13-14 which I carry with me in my heart to know that I truly am not a number. Thank you for this beautiful post today! Hope the wintry weather is not too bad in your neck of Ohio!
    Blessings, Mary!

  3. Thank you, Rachel. I remember when I first became a Christian. I spoke with the pastor at my new church and he introduced me to Psalm 139. It is still one of my favorites and gives me such comfort in times of trial.

  4. Thanks! Yes, I feel like that often. I appreciate your words.

  5. Rachel, what a divine affirmation of a quote I read a while ago and I can’t remember who wrote it or the exact words, but it read (something close to this) “Remember God made you to be unique and He loves you as if you are the only one.” How great is His love for Andrew, for Taylor…for each of us, as if we were the only one! Just saying it aloud brings me joy! God bless!
    ps. Gonna find your post for when we can’t sleep…lol!

    1. I couldn’t sleep last night either! Mercy. lol Must be a sign to write more on that topic. 😉 Blessings today, Friend!
