The gold refining process is more than amazing; but one of my favorite aspects is how the black sludge comes to the top. So the average viewer might think there was nothing of value in the refiner’s pot, but the truth is that the pure gold is on the bottom, solid as can be. Only the refiner has a good picture of the worth underneath the darkness.
After further reflection on “Why am I going through this?” these verses came to mind:
Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. II Corinthians 1:3-5
Only our heavenly Father has the reasons why. Perhaps we are to help someone else through their suffering. Perhaps He wants to show us just how glorious His grace and mercy is. He knows the solid gold for which He is looking, the mirror in which He is seeking to see His reflection. As the dross of our lives rises to the top, the beautiful gold block is forming to be revealed at His choosing. The burning process of removing the dross is painful, but as the impurities are removed, the gold becomes what it should be. If the refining period is shortened, impurities remain.
Bottom line: What’s your worth?
