Just the name “waiting room” gives me a headache. Does it for you? Do you ever look at the drive thru line and decide not to stop because you don’t want to wait? Or put your three items back at the grocery store because you just can’t wait for the checkout line? (PS: Self-checkout is a beautiful friend of mine.)

When my mom was in labor to deliver me, the nurse told her to not to push because she wanted me to “wait for the doctor.” I was born two minutes later without a doctor present. Yes folks, that was only the beginning of my personal issue with waiting.

And what about waiting on God?  For necessities. For answers to prayer. For direction and guidance. For opportunities. I wish I could tell you I never mind waiting on God. But wow, I really want to dig into God’s Word and read what the Bible has to say about waiting for Him to work. So that’s what we are going to do!

This Month’s Challenge

For the month of September, I’d love it it you would join us for the Waiting On God Bible reading challenge. Why am I just now releasing this plan? Because I didn’t want to make you wait for it to start. ha. This is going to be a great one!

How to Participate

If you’ve never joined a Bible reading challenge here before, each day we follow the plan and read the passage. You can share what you are learning on social media or just keep it between you and God. My goal through the reading is to draw closer to Jesus, and I want that for you too!

For this month, we will use the hashtag #waitingonGod . Almost every day, I post on Instagram about what I’m learning through the passages and sometimes I post the Bible journaling pages I work on throughout the study.

On Fridays, I post a summary of what I learned and invite you to share what God is teaching you here on the blog in the comments.

So what are you waiting for?

  1. Ok, I don’t know HOW I missed the theme for September. Ali about divine appointment. Since all our hullabaloo in Vienna started a few weeks ago, the only words I’ve gotten from the Lord is “wait” and “seek ME, not my answer.” I am so glad He brought this challenge to my attention. I will be joining in now!!

  2. Rachel, thank you for this. Everything about life seems to have the “waiting” theme right now for me. I’m praying for God to show me what to do (and not do!) while I wait on his direction.

Count me in. Thanks Rachel, I don’t have a smart phone, so I’ll just be smart enough to wait for Friday’s. Love your testimony and your ministry

  4. Rachel, the waiting on God readings are exactly what I need to read. I loved the God is Bigger readings. I’m a little behind, but I keep up within a few days. Thank you for putting this out for us to follow. It has been a great aid in keeping me in the word. I stay home on the weekend with my elderly mom and haven’t gone to church much this past year to stay with her.(An assisted living home is in the near future but until then she stays with me on the weekends and my sister during the week.) I am thankful for the chance to be a better christen by honoring my mother this way, which I truly needed to do/learn, and to have the time to spend with her. I look forward each day to read the next verse.

  5. I am very interested in following this…right now I do a morning devotion every day from the Upper Room devotion booklet I pick up at church (and mail an extra one to an online friend); I also do a reading from the Psalms using a book I found last year…

I feel this challenge Bible Reading is just what I need, though, and I will TRY to keep up with the daily scriptures that are noted. I don’t do Twitter; all I do is Facebook or my blog, and I also do is Pinterest…but printing out the pdf will help me to follow others and I can respond on your blog…

    Thank you!!

    Dear Rachel,

I came upon your website a month or so ago – when I felt that I could no longer continue my life – SO MANY challenges and no sight of a resolution. I am a “new believer” and am so blessed to have a great sisterhood who HOLD my hand when I am down. I lost my youngest daughter 5 years ago (feels like yesterday) and a few months thereafter was retrenched. I have since been unemployed. So difficult with the current economy to find employment (and I have been trying – close to 400 job applications) in this time. I go for interviews and yet, am never successful. I chose to make Jesus my savior six months ago and despite the “bittercup” of suffering and the many challenges, I do know that my LORD is great and through him I can do all things. So I wait patiently on my GOD for my victory will come through him.

THANK YOU for your reading challenge and the words of inspiration. As a new believer this is very helpful to me.

YOU are definitely a Woman of GOD… a Daughter of the KING!

May you always be blessed with his grace.

    Michelle

    1. Michelle- My heart goes out to you; your life has not been easy by any stretch. Yet I’m so happy that you know Christ as your Savior and that you are willing to wait for his timing to provide your needs. Can’t wait to hear what he does in your life! Cherish any gifts you can find in this desert you are walking. They will be so valuable in the years to come. Thank you for sharing your words!!

    2. Michelle,

I just want you to know that I am saying a prayer for you right now!! You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you! God’s power works best in weakness… I always try to remember that when I’m going through hard times. I’m reading Rachel’s new book One More Step right now and I think you might really like it. I love you sister! Praying for you!!

    3. Michelle, I’m so glad you found this site and commented here so I could have the pleasure of praying for you. Life has been very difficult and you are holding on to hope through Jesus. That, my sister, is FAITH. I’m so glad you chose to continue life and to embrace Jesus for the abundant life. You are an inspiration to me! I’ll continue to pray for you.

    4. Prayers for comfort, strength & peace.
