Thomas Nelson has a terrific new series for junior high age, entitled, “Confessions of April Grace.” As part of the Tommy Mommy program, I’m privileged to bring to you a review of Book #2 in the series: “Cliques, Hicks & Ugly Sticks.”
For a couple examples of the confessions of April Grace:
On the clique at her school:
“There are four other girls in her little group and they call themselves ‘the Lotties.’ Melissa and I call them ‘the Snotties.”
(Sounds a tad on the mischievous side of Anne of Green Gables to me. 😉 OH, how I love Anne.)
“Well, I’m not called April Grace Reilly the Queen of Brilliant Ideas for nothing.”
Based on my review of this book, the series is cute and fun, with lots of personality thrown in. There are some life lessons thrown in too, but overall, the book is an easy read with no heavy plot and no huge amount of depth. Just typical junior high scenarios…peer situations, social agony, and quick wit. Add a few untimely pimples and some mood swings, and you’re all set. 😉
This book is a clean read and enjoyable for preteen girls. If you’d like to win one, just leave a comment below with your favorite book you read in junior high/ middle school. We’ll leave this giveaway open until midnight EST and I’ll announce the random winner tomorrow.
So, what was your favorite book in junior high?

Hmm…I think I was reading Sweet Valley Twins, The Babysitter’s Club, The Boxcar Children…I don’t think I was picky, but I really loved reading series instead of just an individual book!
I can’t remember how old I was, but I know I liked the Sophie books from FaithGirlz.
My very favorite book in junior high was “The Giver” ….I remember being completely blown away by the world it revealed. The ideas behind the book were so creative and really made me think outside of my little box. Still love it to this day!
I honestly cannot remember back that far! HA! Seriously though, I can’t remember off the top of my head what some of my favorite books were. I did love to read (still do when I get the chance!!) so I’m sure I had my favorites.
Oh my! I don’t recall WHAT I read in Jr. High. It’s either because it was too long ago, or because I didn’t read any great, memorable books! I’m so glad my kiddos will have plenty of amazing books to read during jr. high. 🙂
