It’s Friday! Bible Reading Challenge check-in time. For some reason I feel like I’m in the weigh-in room on Biggest Loser, hoping that all of you had an excellent first week and we get to read tons of hearty “I did it!” comments. 🙂 We had over two thousand Bible Reading schedules downloaded!! Yowza! And over a thousand bookmark sheets downloaded. Is that awesome or what?

I have three very happy thoughts about Bible reading for you before we get to see the “results.”

1. God’s Word makes me smile. Does it make you smile? I can’t help but love that God loves details. I’m a word girl- and a Word girl. 🙂

2. To think about so many people reading God’s Word together makes me happy. When I catch my daughter reading her stack of lunch notes that I’ve written to her, it makes me happy. Think about how much God loves it when He sees us reading His Word!

3. The quantity of reading for each day is easily achievable. The tough part will be continuing to be faithful each day. How many of you are stubborn? Ahem. Alright, I confess. I honestly haven’t finished half marathons because I’m a great runner. I’ve finished because I am too stubborn to quit. Let’s change “stubborn” to “determined” and keep our resolve to read God’s Word daily!

Alright! I really want to hear how you are doing. Your comment can be as simple as “I did it!” or as long as you’d like. In fact, if you’re a blogger, I’d love it if you would share either about your experience in the Bible Reading challenge OR whatever post you feel led to share. 🙂

And before you go, I wanted to give you this beautiful photo from my husband’s Malawi missions trip last year. It seemed to reflect the whole chapter of Matthew 4 from our scheduled reading today. (sorry it is so large- I’m having a few blog issues since my last update.)

a light has dawned

  1. I did it! I’m reading in the evenings and most nights to my 6&8 year old boys. Last night they were in bed before I got home. I put my little one in charge of keeping track of where we are. I love the variety of this plan, jumping around makes it seem more doable and interesting, somehow.

I did it! AND so did 21 of my friends. I challenged a bunch of my Sisters in Christ to join me. We are going to meet on the last day of the month and share what we learned from our Bible reading.

Thank you for setting this up. I love the reading schedule too!!

  7. I did it! Thank you so much for your encouragement!

The verse in Genesis that speaks of God breathing life into Adam brought me to tears. Reading it this time…wow. I have a former 25 week preemie with many breathing issues, chronic. And that verse have me such hope and comfort.

  8. I did it. It has been very difficult for me, God and I are having a quarrel. I am trying though and will continue to do so.

  9. I did it!!!!

  12. Nancy miller says:

    I did it!

  16. Thank you Rachel for inspiring me to be in the Word on my own, & not just because I’m doing it for my Bible Study 🙂 LOVE this!

  17. Great challenge, Rachel! I’d join but have been on my own “almost-daily” reading plan, which I find doable, for quite some time now. I’m afraid if I switch, I’ll lose momentum. 🙂 Cheering you all on!

  18. I did it!!

  20. Christina Beebe says:

I did it! I think since so many have their children reading the passages that I will have Stephen, my 11 year old son, play catch-up and read it with me! I am enjoying being back into the Word on a daily basis and having accountablity to stay there! Thanks to everyone!
    In Christ’s Love,
    Christina

  23. Tammy Warren says:

I did it! Enjoying every minute 🙂

  24. I think my favorite reading for the week was Day 1, and Day 3. I never get tired of the Creation Story. So often I have heard that Eve was the one responsible for the Fall. I don’t agree. As I read the account of the creation I find that Adam was given the instructions, however, it never did say where Eve got the instructions. I assume it was left up to Adam to inform her as she was not yet created when they were given tohim
. In Chapter 3:6, after Eve was tempted by Satan it says that …”she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” Note the “who was with her”. He is the one in my mind that made the decision to be disobedient to God and he had the responsibility to stop Eve from being disobedient. Eve was not alone when she ate the fruit, but Adam was with her. I find this a bit revealing don’t you?

    1. Christina Beebe says:

Betty – I find revealing too! I have never noticed that verse or I guess had it revealed to me until this reading!

  25. My husband and I are reading it at night as we wind down before bedtime. We’ve also been reading it to our 5 year old son. It’s great family time and I’m learning alot!

  26. I did it! 🙂

  27. Keeping up
    Enjoying it!

    I’m stubborn too
    Should help!

  28. I have done it! I actually am reading another read through the bible on the You Version bible app in the morning, and this one with Rachel at bedtime. I plan to soak myself in Gods word this year and beyond

  29. Christine Aichele says:

I am reading but I am doing the chronological plan. I have never read through the Bible that way. Thank you for inspiring us to be in God’s Word!

  30. I did it! I’ve had a desire in my heart for a long long time to spend time with the Lord and grow closer to Him. I’m not a morning person, but I’ve made a goal this year to wake up extra early to read His Word. I’m really enjoying this plan so far. I’m finding that I can’t wait to wake up and read!

  31. Love being in The Word each day. First time doing a reading plan and love the commitment.

  32. Cassandra C says:

I did it! I am enjoying going through the Bible with community support. I am DETERMINED to finish 🙂

  33. VeronicaS says:

I am really enjoying this bible reading plan, recently i got a new study bible and since i started this plan I am learning more about the bible than i ever have before, thanks to the extra notes about almost each verse i read… also I am reading the NLT version .. its something i am looking forward to doing everyday now!!! we are relocating this wkend and my pray is that I keep up with my bible reading!!! Thank you for allowing all of us to join you on this yr long bible journey !!!

  37. I did it! 🙂 I became Catholic at Easter last year, and have wanted to read the bible since I started my journey in October 2011. Thank you for providing a challenge like this, it was perfect timing, and the perfect start to my New Year xx

  38. I did it! I have been on holidays so finding the time has been easy, but I am determined to continue as I go back to work next week and the busyness of life sets in again.

  39. Marion Crutchfield says:

Yay! I did it!! A little confused on how everything relates – anyone else??

    1. Yes, I think some of the passages are a bit of a stretch on the “theming” But… thinking of it from an overall perspective, chapters 1 of each book would correlate: Genesis- the beginning of sinners. Matthew- the beginning of the Savior, Ezra- the beginning of renewed worship at the temple, Acts- the beginning of the Church, This schedule is the one I used years ago and had no copyright info or identification on it. But my husband told me this week that this same schedule is what Olive Tree Software has available on their app. So I’m not sure where it originated. I do like the variety in the reading though! Keeps me on my toes.

  40. I did it (up to day 3…I still have 50ish minutes until day 4!). I am underlining familiar, new, and relevant verses and writing them in my journal. Reading my Bible is definitely the highlight of my day!

  41. We are doing it! My husband, 13 year old daughter, and 10 year old daughter! Thank you for the inspiration as it has been a goal for all of us and it’s great to be doing it together!
