Everything was stirring, perhaps even a mouse;
The stockings were barely hanging by a thread without care,
Because of the little hands that wouldn’t leave them there;
The children were wild and dancing with glee,
They truly were hyper, playing the Wii;
And Daddy’s still shopping, and I heave a big sigh,
There’s so much to do when Christmas is nigh.
When down in my heart there arose such a clatter,
I had to examine, to see what was the matter.
Away to the Bible I flew like a flash,
Tore open the pages and read in a dash.
The Light that it shed was wondrously bright,
Gave the Reason for the season on this dark night.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a manger of hay, and the Baby so dear,
With the young Virgin Mary, so strong and brave,
I was reminded again that He came to save.
More rapid than eagles His promises, they came,
And He spoke to me, after all, He knows my name;
“Now, dear child, you’re indulging in all the wrong glee;
For Christmas is not about stuff; it’s about me!
Oh, your house can look nice and your bathroom so clean,
But don’t let it pass and think ‘What did it mean?’
As your heart looks to Jesus and you wonder at His birth,
Remember to tell others while you’re here on this earth.”
So down to the computer my fingers they flew,
With a heart full of joy, since Jesus loves you.
And then, in a twinkling, I typed on the blog
Christmas isn’t about the crazy Yuletide log.
As I read the greatest story of love ever told,
Down from Heaven came Jesus, the Son of God, bold.
He was wrapped in swaddling clothes, from his head to his toe,
And his roommates were cattle, though they lay low;
A bundle of joy He portrayed to His mother,
But He looked like a newborn, similar to others.
His eyes – how they squinted. His skin- how it sagged.
His face was all puffy; His outfit was ragged.
His tiny little mouth was verging on screams,
And the sweet baby wanted his mama, it seemed.
His mama was holding the very Son of God,
As into the stable the shepherds did trod.
He had a baby face and a special bright glow,
As God was made flesh on this earth below.
He was God and man, a unique combination,
And was sent to fulfill the plan of salvation;
Faultless He was and blameless through strife,
He died on the cross so that we could have life.
He spoke every word, with unmistakable presence,
And loves all the world with undeniable essence,
And laying His life down for you and for me,
He gave up the ghost, so that we could be free.
He sprang from the grave, He rose from the dead!
He conquered death’s sting and is risen instead!
So THIS is the reason we celebrate with much ado,
“Merry Christmas to all, and Jesus loves you.”
