A Child’s Prayer of Thanks & 12 Little Blessings Book Giveaway

When children are young, finding words to pray can sometimes be challenging. This is the reason many of us know the faithful prayer “Now I lay me down to sleep…” Reciting prayers can be helpful for children to form words and habits of prayer. Encouraging your children to form their own words is truly wonderful, but for times they need a little help, a short memorized prayer is a great way to continue God-honoring behavior.

Simple habits for young children potentially develop into powerful prayer habits as adults. Here are just a few tips on ways our family has discovered to unify our hearts regarding prayer (and not that we’ve perfected them by any means!):

  • Close your eyes. This is simply a sign of reverence.
  • Fold your hands. This will help them stay focused.
  • Or hold hands with family members. Doing this signals unity in prayer and love for family.
  • Keep prayer reminders on the fridge- a great way to keep prayer a priority.
  • Use prayer journals to track prayers and answers to prayers.
  • Pray at the same time each day. Before meals and at bedtime have really worked for us.

The above are just a few ideas our family has found to encourage prayer in the lives of children. I also wrote this child’s prayer of thanks. This short prayer can assist in keeping a positive attitude and remembering the Provider of all blessings.

Dear God,

I’m thankful

For all You give:

For food,

For love,

A place to live.

I thank you for my family too

And I want you to know

that I love you.

I love this little book and so do my kiddos, especially my two youngest. As part of the Really Woolly brand, the sweet animal characters in the book are fun and cute. The soft sweet rhymes are a wonderful reminder that God is the giver of every wonderful thing. This book is also a great tool for teaching your children to count! A Prayer of Thanksgiving

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Dear Father,

We humbly come before you with grateful hearts,

Praising You with all our being,

For we know that every good and perfect gift

Comes from You- the One who never changes.

We recognize those good things, both large and small,

With which You’ve blessed us.

But we also recognize our forgetfulness

In giving thanks each and every day.

Forgive us in our humanity, Lord.

May we learn to thank you for the good;

And may we trust the evil to be made good by You.

For You alone are worthy of our praise and thanksgiving.
