Five Minute Friday Word- Expectation

Every Friday a bunch of us writer chics link up together at the Gypsy Mama’s place for a five minute writing challenge.  No takebacks, just blurting it all out.  This week’s word is “expectation.”

And Here. We. Go.

Beginning with a story of promise, God declares Abraham to produce unending human seed, as many children as the sands of the sea. (And I thought 7 was a good number.)  The beginning of one generation after another in which the final outcome would be the Savior of the world.

What a God covenant.

How Abraham cherished his encounters with the Creator, wrestling all night with the One who would give him as many children as the stars of the night sky.

For years, Abraham and Sarah waited. Years. And years.  He who promised was not delivering.  Their God was not providing that Promised One.  Without even one child, their understanding of God’s covenant seemed diminished, in fact, non-existent.

Their hearts held unfulfilled expectation.

But at just the right time,

God perfected His promise.

The long-awaited son lived within Sarah’s womb, transforming her body from a complete state of non-expectation to one of glorious anticipation.

The one the New Testament author of Hebrews names as “being as good as dead”- Abraham…

lived the moment.

God exceeded his expectation.

As only He can.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us…

Eph. 3:20
