Got a summer birthday?  I mean, birthdays are great and all, but I love, LOVE that my birthday is in the summer.   I have so many great summertime memories but the one that came to the forefront is from the summer of 1978, when I turned six years old.

I don’t remember unwrapping the present… can’t remember the cake or if we even had one.  But I remember what the gift was: a camera that served as a squirt gun when you took the picture.  Out of curiosity, I googled this little toy and guess what?  You can still get them! They look like this:

I think I probably bothered everyone with this camera.  My siblings, parents, the store clerk… just kidding.  I just remember loving the look on their faces when I asked them to say “Cheese!” and innocently pushed the button, only for the “victim” to realize they just got an eyeful of water if my aim was good enough.

Simple things in life are precious.

I remember a friend of my dad’s taking time to play with me.  He would let me shoot him over and over again, never complaining and just enjoying my laughter.

In reflection of this memory, treasuring unredeemable moments is so much important than treasuring tangible things.

So to focus on what really matters:

Matthew 6:21

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

What are you treasuring today?

Sounds like you had a lot of fun with that toy and now with the memories – who knew it was a two for one type of gift!
