Teaching younger children about the true meaning of Easter is so fun! There are many special ways of helping them begin to understand that God is personal and Jesus loves them very much .

For this post, I was researching a few Easter ideas and I came up with this idea to combine storytelling with participation. This is an adapted idea from several different ideas I discovered of this nature.

Easter Bingo for ages 4-7 is designed to give the teacher or parent an opportunity to tell the Easter story using picture symbols. As the pictures are discussed, the children place their markers over the corresponding pictures. Each child has the same bingo card that looks like this:

The order of events for the story is:

Jesus praying, bread for the Last Supper, silver  pieces, rope for  scourging, crown of thorns, nail, cross, 3 days later, stone rolled away, empty tomb, He has risen

Cut one of the bingo cards and choose one of each picture to tell the story. The children can place a marker over the pictures as the story is told. Be sure to let the children know that there may be more than one picture of each section of the story. All the children will complete the card at the same time.

I thought it would be fun to use jelly beans as markers and then the children can eat them when their card is full and the story is completed. Having children interact with the story is a great way to help them remember the points of the story. While Easter bingo is fun, taking a child to another level of understanding what Jesus has done for them is this wonderful resource from bestselling author, Stephen Elkins.

bible storybook

Introducing children to Jesus at an early age is critical and today I’m privileged to introduce the beautiful Jesus and Me Bible Storybook to you as another wonderful tool to tell of Jesus’ love for us. This storybook has one feature that I love in particular, every other page contains a “Jesus and Me” paragraph that explains promises and principles of living for Jesus today.  I really wanted you to see this feature so I snapped a couple quick photos:

jesus and me 2

Isn’t that awesome? I love the way the questions prompt critical thinking skills and provide an opportunity for practical application.

Today I’m giving away one of these sweet books to provide one blessed winner the wonderful opportunity of encouraging a child to begin walking with Jesus. 1. Our toddler is still very young, but we’ve established a nightly routine reading a bible story and then praying.

  2. My daughter is still trying to wrap her mind around who Jesus is exactly. I tell her at various times that Jesus loves her, and I try to answer her questions honestly. I tell her that she can pray anytime.

  3. We talk about how God is always with us and sees what we are doing. Sometimes it happens to be something that makes God happy and sometimes it could be something that makes God sad.

  4. Thank you for creating this bingo activity. Such a fun idea! I will incorporate this into the Christ-centered Easter activities I do with my kiddos!

  7. Joanne Peterson says:

I tell my boys that Jesus loves children and He is with us even though we can’t see Him. He is everywhere all at one time.

  8. I remind them how Jesus is with them and hears them no matter how small it is.

  9. I will be sharing the Bingo with my son so he can use it with the children at the church where he is the youth pastor. Thank you!

  10. I always tell them Jesus is always beside you. If you need to talk to Him, He is right there. Now they’ll tell us ;0)
