Beautiful Children’s Christmas Book/Project Giveaway!

girl reading bookToday I’m giving you the scoop on this beautiful new Christmas book, The Sparkle Box, and it is such a pretty book!

When my sweet eight year old girlie saw it, her eyes lit up; she’s a girlie girl who loves her sparkle and glitter! But her mama was a bit more focused on the message of the book and wow, does this book deliver.

Every year, my husband and I try to creatively think of ways to keep our children from getting caught up in the retail frenzy and instead focus on the real reason of Christmas- celebrating Jesus’ birth and opportunities to give to others. We love for the children to have fun and we love to give them gifts, but any avenue we can find to emphasize the aforementioned reasons is much appreciated.

Sparkle Box reviewEnter “The Sparkle Box.” This book tells the story of a boy, Sam, who can’t wait for Christmas- one present on the mantle is especially holding his eye. His parents have told him it is a special present to open together, but this is a gift that must be filled first. As Sam begins to observe his family’s serving and giving through the holiday season, he begins to see how blessed he is. Then when Sam opens The Sparkle Box on Christmas morning, what he finds gives him an understanding of what Christmas is truly about- the opportunity to show others the love of Jesus as we celebrate His birth!

This book includes a sparkle box for your family to enjoy!

So, all that said, who would like to win one? I thought you might! Just follow the Rafflecopter and I’ll see you tomorrow with the winner. ;)

Reading from the Bible and attending Christmas Eve services at church.

We make a gorgeous cake on Christmas Eve before leaving for service. We eat it for breakfast on Christmas after singing ‘Happy Birthday, Dear Jesus’. It’s the one day of the year the children are allowed to eat cake for breakfast and it reminds them that it’s His birth we celebrate.

  7. Diana Riggs says:

We don’t ban Santa from our vocabulary or anything, but we have made it very clear to our son that Santa is a fun make-believe story but Jesus is the real star of the show! We also remind him that we give gifts to remind us of the best gift – Jesus. We always read Luke 2 before opening presents. :)

  8. Claire H says:

Would love this for my 7 year old. I am thankful for God blessing me with such a wonderful family and for Jesus.

One thing we’ve started with is a Names of Jesus Tree. I got the idea from kojodesigns, and we loved putting it together and reading the verses that went with each ornament.

We use window stickers of the nativity scene to tell the story, and we adopt an angel at our church.

This has been a tough one for me. We all but abstained from Christmas last year, trying to figure out how to make it more meaningful. So far, it’s just been a lot of reading books that teach the kids what Christmas is all about. It’s hard to shield them from the commercialism, since you see it literally everywhere you go.

    • Kate says:

This book is really different from the others. It has been a beautiful experience for our family, and really brings back the true meaning of the Christmas season.
Commercialism will always be there, and it is aggravating at times. But keeping a tradition like The Sparkle Box in our family has helped our family to grow in our bonds with each other, in our understanding and awareness of need throughout the world, and in our connection with Jesus and his message of love.

  16. I always have a basket of books and movies that are only for Christmas; this book will make a great addition to our growing library!

  17. I love the idea of three gifts – just like the Three Wisemen brought to Jesus :)

  18. brandy says:

  27. Tonya says:

We go visit my Grandfather’s sisters in the nursing home. One year my brother had the great idea for us to assemble gingerbread houses while we visited (which kept the kids entertained) made pictures, to keep and share, and then left the houses with the “Aunties” to enjoy! They even displayed them on their dinner table that evening for all to enjoy :) We loved how it brought us together across the generations and made a memory for the children of reaching out and loving on those often overlooked.

  28. Rosey says:

Instead of Santa leaving presents, Jesus leaves our family something. It may be a cross, a devotional book, instructions on how to bless someone else. But there is a note with scripture and encouragement also. We also sing happy birthday to Jesus, and have a cake. Last year we threw a birthday party for Jesus at Church for all of the younger kids. Our youth class led it. Thank you for your inspiring words and sharing Gods love.

  29. Amber D says:

This looks like such a sweet book. I know my girls will love it. We read a lot of Christmas books and spend a lot of time playing with our fisher price little people nativity to capture the true meaning of Christmas.

Reading the story in the bible.

  33. Michelle C says:

One thing we’ve enjoyed doing together is packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. And since our children have birthdays that fall in among the Holidays, we now host a packing party each year in honor of their birthdays, and encourage friends and family to pack shoeboxes in lieu of any birthday presents. (This horrifies some people when they hear of it, but no one is really deprived. Our children still get to celebrate their individual birthdays with family. :-)

  34. Jessica says:

We go to christmas eve service and we also do a shoe box for each child for operation christmas child.

  38. Chelsea Wipf says:

We havent really implemented anything so far besides reading the Christmas story (Luke 2) and talking with our young kids about why we celebrate Christmas. This book sounds like a wonderful addition to help all of us remember the reason for this holiday and what it really is all about.

  39. Rachel says:

An idea we have done is have the kids sing happy birthday to Jesus and have real birthday cake for breakfast Christmas morning.

  40. Karen P says:

  43. Michele says:

My email was not correct on tje last comment. We would to win thi s book.
    Thanks for sharing.

  44. Kate says:

I guarantee you this book is different than anything you have read or heard about before. My mother actually wrote it! The Sparkle Box has been a family tradition for some time now, and has always brought us back to the true meaning of Christmas in caring for others, and growing in our connection with Jesus by honoring him and his message of love and peace for all the world. The bond that you will feel growing as a family when you read the little slips of paper together on Christmas morning, with the realization that your blessings are being spread throughout the world on behalf of Jesus… it is something that is absolutely moving.
That so many people are already buying the book, and plan to make The Sparkle Box a tradition in their own homes is such a powerful thing to witness.
